Ages in Myst have many species of animals in common, familiar types such as dogs, horses, rabbits, song birds and fish. However, each Age also has creatures that are specific to that Age and are unique and unusual. Here is a directory of the unique creatures that can be found in each Age. These creatures can be found in the wild only in the Ages stated. It is possible for people to capture these creatures however and travel across to other Ages with them.

Riven

Species: Ytram
Found: Practically everywhere
Size: About the size of golf-balls.
Description: Brown, red and yellow frogs found everywhere you look and on each island in Riven. Why their name is unique opposed to normal frogs is because of their composition. They are considered dangerous, for they have a acidic slime coat on their bodies. If touched, this slime coat will burn away at your skin. They however avoid people and are only considered a threat to the fool who would touch one carelessly.

Species: Wahrk
Found: Ocean
Size: About the size of orca's.
Description: Half whale/half shark, Wahrk's are massive aquatic creatures that live in the deep waters around Riven. They are meat eaters, and it is told they can swallow a human whole. Once when Riven was under a tyranny rule, people were sacrificed to Wahrks to appease the God's by order of their ruler, but no longer. However they are still a threat to fisherman and anyone who ventures out into the ocean. They have a loud, moaning wail that signals they are near and tough hides that make it difficult for weapons to pierce.

Species: Zephyr
Found: Jungle Island
Size: Around ten feet tall.
Description: Not much is known about Zephyr's. They are a rare creature that is not often seen, and the few times they are seen it is brief, for their hearing seems exceptional and they will quickly flee. They are always seen alone, and eat grasses and leaves.

Species: Golden Beetle
Found: Everywhere, but mainly Temple Island
Size: About the size of a saucer plate
Description: Rumored to be of real gold, Golden Beetles are sacred to the people of Riven. They are seen as representations of their God and are a rare sight to see on Riven’s islands, but it is considered a blessing if you should spot one. It is said these beetles have helped children find their way home when they are lost and help crops grow. It is a crime to harm a Golden Beetle.

J’nanin

Species: Sunner
Found: Near the water, mainly the docks.
Size: Size of walrus's
Description: Shy, fish-eating creatures. Can be found often sunning themselves on rocks and small pieces of land, but if ever approached they are quick to flee. They live majorly in the water and are usually found in family groups. Are quiet; not many sounds of communication are heard from them.

Species: Squee
Found: Everywhere
Size: About the size of a gerbil
Description: Small, rodent-like creatures that live in crevices of rocks. They are curious and quite fearless of people, which has made them a popular animal to be captured and used as pets. They have a weakness for berries. There name comes from the sounds they produce and when it vocalizes it's cheeks blow in and out like a bubble.

Species: Piranha Bird
Found: The Beach
Size: A little larger than a chicken.
Description: A small white bird with short legs and a excessively massive mouth with teeth. It is very vicious and it does not take much to provoke it. It is a highly territorial bird that will chase after and attack anything it deems as a threat. They are usually deterred and kept from the village because of their nasty behavior, but sometimes they sneak in and cause havoc.

Uru

Species: Karnak
Found: Kadish; Abandoned buildings
Size: Six to eight feet tall.
Description: Large bat-like creature with divergent eyes much like a hammerheads. It is completely silent when it flies and isn't often seen for they avoid human populations and spend most of their time up high in trees and old buildings. There mouth is small and only eat small rodents and insects. It is rumored they will swoop down and steal babies, but this has never been actually reported.

Species: Mangree
Found: Kadish and Eder Kemo
Size: About the size of a spider monkey.
Description: Friendly and playful, Mangrees are often seen as a great joy to watch and study as they live in large family groups. They can be hesitant of people, but if shown they will not be harmed they are willing to interact. They have many vocalizations and are extremely intelligent. They at times are captured to be pets, but are often found to be too much of a handful to keep.

Species: Camoudile
Found: Kadish, sometimes Eder Kemo if food sources low
Size: About the size of a tiger
Description: Though not a fast runner, Camoudiles have a powerful body mass and fatal jaws. They often lie flat in underbrush, waiting silently for their prey to walk by before leaping out and striking. They are extremely feared and at times, especially during winter, they well venture near humans to try and steal a unsuspecting meal. They are hunted for their skin, which is used to make expensive clothing and their teeth fashioned into necklaces.

Species: Bahro
Found: Everywhere, only at night
Size: Four to seven feet tall.
Description: Steeped in mystery, Bahro's can often be seen lurking around at night, but not much is known of them. Some fear them as evil spirit manifestations, while others view them as guardians. They are seen walking on four legs or on two, and some say they have seen Bahro's with wings flying in the air. Their presence is often known by their small, glowing blue eyes. They make many sounds, though do not appear to have mouths. Rumor is that Bahro's were the dominant race in Uru before humans took over and took their lands. Although some claim they are dangerous, Bahro's are peaceful creatures.

Tomahna

Species: Buzzing Firefly
Found: Everywhere
Size: About the size of a quarter
Description: Buzzing Fireflies are harmless little insects who emit a fierce-some light and heat. It is unknown where they rest during the day, but once the sun fully sets they fill the entire air. They emit a soft buzzing sound that drones on in the background and are often found annoying by people not used to it. There are thousands of them every night, and are used as the lighting source for Tomahna. There favorite sap is placed into lanterns every night, and they swam into them to eat, which creates free, natural light.

Species: Kemo fish
Found: Lake
Size: About the size of a large catfish
Description: Large, slow swimming rainbow colored fish. They once populated Uru, but were stolen and taken in droves to Tomahna once those practicing science realized Kemo fish made wonderful "lab rats". Along with being used to test experiments, they are very delicious when cooked and are used for many dishes.

Species: Keanulint
Found: On rocks near the lake
Size: About the size of a large scorpion
Description: A black, shiny and harmless arthropod like creature that lives in crevices on rocks around the lake. Although there tails are pointed, they never use it even when provoked. They eat algae and other plant life that attach to rocks near the waters edge.

Species: Giant Bird
Found: Unknown
Size: About the size of a Andean Condor
Description: Blue and red majestic birds that have a serene call that is said to purify one's soul. Giant Birds once populated the cavern where Tomahna now sits, but when building began these birds were killed carelessly to stop them from attacking workers who were encroaching on their nests. It is said they mate for life and have bright blue eggs, but none have been seen since Tomahna was built.
