Preconceived Notions Empty
PostSubject: Preconceived Notions   Preconceived Notions EmptySat May 04, 2013 8:29 pm

Georgia stepped through the portal and into the town square of Eder Kemo. Much to her dismay, she saw that the sun was just beginning to set, this was a concern for the city was not safe at night and it was a long walk to her employer's home in Teledahn. Each time she came back to Uru she always wished she could come out in the portal located in Teledahn but since she was a commoner she did not feel that she had that right even though it would have been more convenient for her.

With a furtive glance at her surroundings, Georgia started off towards her employer's home, being sure to keep her head down and avoid eye contact with anyone who happened to be on the streets. "Lorelei Louvel, Lorelei Louvel, Lorelei Louvel." she muttered the name to herself over and over again but in the approaching darkness, it brought her little comfort. She tried to focus her thoughts on the next time she would be able to return home and the baby and Lorelei and Lorelei's name, she tried to think even of her employer's house for though she could not call it home, she could call it safe. She glanced around again and quickened her pace but no sooner had she done this when she ran right into what she thought was a wall.

It was not in fact a wall but a person, and as Georgia looked up at this person she froze and her eyes widened in fear. She had run right into an Urun Soldier.

Hawke always was doing his rounds. It seemed from sun up to sun down and throughout the night all he did was walk around and around Eder Kemo to make sure nothing amiss was happening. He stopped fights, kept drunk men in control and made sure anyone with bad intentions knew his presence was always known. Only late at night when things seemed calm did he visit the woman he was courting, Cecelie, but until then he did his duty as always. He had walked by a tavern that had seemed particularly rowdy and he had paused to stand and watch, just to make sure it was normal drunken revelry and not something he would have to intervene and control. As he stood there he suddenly felt someone smack into him and he turned quickly.

He put a hand on his sword at first, just a natural defense. There were plenty people who when they had too much to drink liked to think they could challenge a soldier, but when he merely saw a girl standing there he dropped his hands and frowned “Are you alright, miss?” He asked, seeing the look on her face and wondered if she was frightened of him or frightened of something else. He glanced around then back down to her curiously.

Initially, Georgia jumped when he spoke, but she didn't miss the soft, slightly puzzled tone in his voice and this calmed her a great deal. She let out a breath in which she whispered Lorelei's name and then looked back at the soldier. Upon closer inspection, she realized he didn't look like most of the soldiers she had seen in Urun. His face was kinder and more concerned. Where the other soldiers stalked around seeming to look for an excuse to arrest or detain somebody, this one walked tall and with confidence. He had an air of duty about him as though he were a knight on a quest to rescue a fair princess or as though he had a dragon to slay. In fact, unlike the other soldiers, this one did not look at all like he would harm an innocent in any way and this put Georgia even more at ease until she realized that she was taking far too long to answer the question he'd put to her.

"Oh!" she stammered, "Er, yes, I am fine... I am just on my way... to my employer's is all..." she trailed off and was about to scurry around him and be on her way when something else occurred to her which made her jump again and wring her hands. "Oh and I am terribly sorry I ran into you... I was not watching where I was going... I know where I am going but I mean, that is I was looking at the ground and not ahead so I did not know what was in front of me, only below me... um..." she trailed off again. She really should leave if she didn't want to be late again but she wanted to make sure that he hadn't been offended by her ramblings. If he had, then another apology was in order.

He nodded when she spoke, smiling and chuckling some “Do not be nervous, miss” He didn’t want her to think he was going to harm her just because she bumped into him. She wasn’t trying to steal from him so he could hardly mind or be upset, it would be stupid to become cross over something so trivial. The people of Eder Kemo appreciated Hawke’s presence, he was there protector and most knew him or at least knew about him, but Teledahn did not since he avoided that place like the plague. He shook his head and raised a hand “Please, do not fret. It was an accident I know. No need to apologize” She seemed like such a nervous girl, someone that wouldn’t survive well in a place like Eder Kemo.

“It seems rather late for a girl as yourself to be out. Where is it that you work?” He hoped close by, he hated to see girls so young wandering about by themselves. Bad things happened to girls like her, nervous and meek, men with bad intentions could spot women like that in a heartbeat and swoop down on them like predators after a newborn deer. Even Cecelie who was strong and bold had been targeted before.

PostSubject: Re: Preconceived Notions   Preconceived Notions EmptyMon May 06, 2013 6:00 am

Georgia rocked back and forth on her heels, trying to center herself. The soldier's voice soothed her but it did nothing for her trouble with focusing. Only dancing seemed to be able to do that. She glanced around the street again finding new wonders to take interest in and new dangers to be wary of. She noticed, not for the first time, that they were standing by a pub which seemed very loud and boisterous to Georgia's ears. A part of her longed to take a peek inside to see what all the commotion was about but the more sensible part of her reminded her that pubs were usually always noisy and she wouldn't be seeing anything of great interest or abnormality. In an alley across the way she thought she saw something ominous move in the shadows. She squinted but could discern nothing in the dark from the distance that she was at. Normally she would be frightened but the soldier's presence calmed her and made her feel safe. She turned back to him finally, bowing slightly.

"I work in Teledahn, sir." she said politely. "Normally I would be there already but I was granted holiday and just got back from Riven... er that is where I am from." she stopped here. No more than an hour back in Uru and she was already homesick. She fidgeted again looking down at her hands, trying to fill her head with happy thoughts. Once again she whispered Lorelei's name, she seemed to be doing that more than usual lately, perhaps it was because of the baby. She shook her head to banish those sad thoughts from her mind and looked up at the soldier once again.
"Anyway, I really must be going for I am terribly late, and I am sure I have kept you too long. Thank you for... well just thank you."

She worked in Teledahn? “That is still quite a distance” Poor girl, probably a maid there. It seemed aristocrats always had jobs open, lulling poor men and women from other Ages in the hope they’d get a good job with a high standing family…only to be treated ill and do grueling work. He had no high opinion of Teledahn but he had worked in the inner city before and it had disgusted him for life. They wasted money paving roads with jewels then feeding the people here in Eder Kemo. When she mentioned Riven he looked intrigued and chuckled a bit “Riven? Interesting place, Riven” He had gone there recently looking for something to heal Cecelie when she fell deathly sick, and well…it was an experience that made him not wish to visit again.

When she whispered something he tilted his head curiously “What?” He asked, the name sounding familiar to him though he hadn’t caught it clearly. He got a bad feeling in his stomach to let this girl go all the way to Teledahn alone and he gave her a gentle look “Would you like me to escort you?” He did it all the time, women would personally come and ask him too if they felt unsafe and Hawke never minded it. That was his job, to keep people safe.

Georgia jumped in surprise when the soldier asked her if she wanted him to escort her to her destination. No one had ever offered to do that before, not here in Uru anyway. Then again, usually she was not this late and usually she did not have to walk through Eder Kemo at night. "Oh... well, if it is not too much trouble then I would not mind... thank you very much." Still, Georgia felt a slight pang at accepting the offer. She was sure he had better things to do than escort silly little girls around the city at night. He probably had somewhere he needed to be. I'll walk quickly then, she thought so as not to keep him too long.

And so, she set off at a trot towards Teledahn, after a moment she looked up at him. "Lorelei is the name I spoke earlier," she said, "Lorelei Louvel, do you know her? She is a dear friend of mine and she is expecting a baby soon, I do hope it is born by the time I get to return, else it might be grown when I finally do get to meet it..." she trailed off. She was talking too much again, but she couldn't help it, awkward silences were meant to be filled.

PostSubject: Re: Preconceived Notions   Preconceived Notions EmptyWed May 08, 2013 12:04 am

She was quite a skittish little thing, wasn’t she? Though it was to be expected considering the circumstances. He knew Riven women were hardly treated as equals in Riven and she was in Eder Kemo near night standing with an Uru soldier whose reputations were not always good ones. He was probably frightening her standing here speaking to her and asking questions, but he wanted her to know he meant no harm. He smiled and shook his head “No trouble at all, miss. It is what I do” If he was late to see Cecelie he knew she wouldn’t mind, he was often late because of doing soldier duties. He offered his hand “My name is Hawke” She didn’t need to give her name if she didn’t wish it, but he was always the polite one.

Lorelei…yes, he did know that name after all “She is the Riven leader’s wife, isn’t she? The one from J’nanin?” He asked, curious if they were speaking of the same woman “I met her briefly once” She had convinced the leader of Riven, her husband, to not kill him when he had gone there looking to heal Cece. She appeared to have a command of the Rivenese people he had not known Rivenese women were allowed. He gave her a gentle smile as they walked, not minding at all that she rambled, Hawke hardly spoke to many people and he did enjoy it though he wasn’t much of a talker himself “I did not know she was with child” He wondered how that would change things between J’nanin and Riven, now that they would truly have something common between them, a baby of both Ages.

PostSubject: Re: Preconceived Notions   Preconceived Notions EmptyWed May 08, 2013 8:35 am

Georgia jumped once more when the man offered his hand but she carefully placed her dainty little hand in his. "Hawke..." she said slowly, experimenting with the name. It sounded strong and courageous. The name fit him well, she decided. "I am Georgia," she said quickly, "Georgia Hill." And she added a small curtsy to be polite. As she walked down the street she wondered at this man. She knew very well that stereotypes and reputations among a group of people were rarely true for everyone in said group but she was curious as to how Hawke had become so entirely different from the other Urun soldiers she had seen. Just the fact that he was in Eder Kemo was an oddity. She was used to dodging soldiers in the streets of Teledahn but Hawke was the first one she had met here. She appreciated his presence though, there was something about him that made her feel safe and she felt that she didn't have to worry about trying to act proper when her attention was so easily captured by trivialities.

It was only when Hawke stopped speaking all together that Georgia realized the first thing he'd said was a question. She jumped and wrung her hands. "Oh yes, that is her... She is very beautiful I think... I am glad she came to Riven, she is like me... er that is neither of us really fit in in our homes... and we both get homesick..." Georgia shook her head. What was with her today? Usually she didn't have this much trouble holding her tongue, but there was something about Hawke, as with Lorelei, that made her feel she could speak freely without consequence. She smiled to herself and then remembered something her mother told her. It was rude to carry one a conversation with something and only talk about yourself so she asked, suddenly. "How is it you came to visit Riven?" Only after the words were out of her mouth did she realize that might have been a rude question.

Preconceived Notions Empty
PostSubject: Re: Preconceived Notions   Preconceived Notions EmptyWed May 08, 2013 6:47 pm

“It is a pleasure to meet you, Georgia” He raised her hand to kiss it briefly before releasing it. Hawke was an oddity, he had been told this plenty of times throughout his life. To have been raised since birth to be a soldier, he held nothing of the attitude many other soldiers did that began training as teenagers. He always wondered where he got his personality from since he never did know his parents, he assumed it was probably a mix, never knowing he got every ounce of his personality from his sweet tempered mother and not his asshole of a father. Hawke had been around Urun soldiers his entire life and he had seen good aspects of them and bad aspects and somehow his spirit just decided to pick the good aspects only and see the bad as something he would never want to be.

Goodness, she was a nervous person wasn’t she? Hawke wasn’t sure how to ease her, so he just kept talking “Why do you come here to work in Uru? It is not common to see Rivenese leave their Age” He had met some and knew of others that had decided to leave Riven and venture out on there own, but the Rivenese were known for being recluses. Her question made him pause, trying to think on how he should word it. The Riven leader had made him swear to tell no others, but Georgia was from the Age itself, there couldn’t be much harm in telling her something he was sure she already knew “I had a friend who was sick. I was looking for something to heal her with” A deathly fever was sweeping over Uru, more in Eder Kemo then Teledahn but even the aristocrats were suffering many deaths. “Your leader gave me something to help her, though I believe it was more that woman, Lorelei, that convinced him to help me”

Preconceived Notions Empty
PostSubject: Re: Preconceived Notions   Preconceived Notions EmptyWed May 08, 2013 8:55 pm

Georgia blushed as he kissed her hand. She had never met such a gentleman before! Her suitors had all played at being gentlemen, she remembered how they went through the motions of being hospitable to her and how stiff they seemed. She also remembered how when they found something they didn't like about her they were quick to drop the kind, polite act and show their true colors in their declarations against a marriage. Some still tried to be polite about it, some were completely pompous about it and then others were just downright mean. Georgia had never really minded though, she had never wanted to marry any of them anyway. This soldier here, however, was a real gentlemen. If he had been one of her suitors she expected that she would have been less opposed to marrying him as she was with the others, though a part of her knew that it would only be in the case of an arranged marriage that she would. It was true, she greatly respected and admired him and she was sure that he would make a wonderful husband but she could not bring herself to think of him romantically. And as she looked up at him she realized that marrying him would be very much like marrying her own sister, she was beginning to feel a connection to him but that connection was completely platonic and she was more than okay with this. In fact, she was quite happy with this and she hoped dearly that she wasn't boring, or offending him in any way. "It is a pleasure to meet you as well, Hawke." she said.

Georgia had, of course, heard of the incident in Riven of which Hawke spoke, however she had been in Uru at the time and not Riven. Still, she knew the fever of which he spoke and she had seen it in action. It was a terrifying illness that left Georgia shaken and pale whenever it was described or even mentioned. She was not aware of it, but she had in fact grown quite pale when it was brought up. She was very glad that Lorelei had been there to persuade Noel to help Hawke. She admired and respected Noel and she knew he was good to Lorelei but he, like most Rivenese, was wary of strangers and his people always came first. Georgia recognized that he was a good leader but he intimidated her all the same. Georgia shook these thoughts from her mind however and pondered an answer to Hawke's question. Finally she said "I do not fit in well in Riven... that only part of the reason though. You see I... well my father sent me here because he was upset that he could not marry me off... he thought the city would do me well I suppose but... well, as I said I get homesick often..." Georgia was reluctant to say that she did not like living in Uru in front of Hawke. There was no way, being a soldier, that he could not see the despair and corruption within the city but it seemed rude to say such a thing as it was still his home and Georgia was very concerned about offending him.

Preconceived Notions Empty
PostSubject: Re: Preconceived Notions   Preconceived Notions EmptyWed May 08, 2013 10:48 pm

Hawke had never had any siblings or even friends growing up…though he supposed there was no real way to know if he truly did have siblings. His mother could have had children before him or after him and he would never know. He could have met a sibling of his for all he knew, and it bothered him to think that was possible. If he had siblings somewhere he would want to know them and have them be a part of his life, but he knew that was not possible. He always knew the reason why he was abandoned was because his mother had him out of wedlock or had been forced upon and saw him as a disgrace. As he grew though he had learned to not dwell too much on his parentage, but he had always wished for some kind of family. Normal people had parents, sisters, brothers, cousins…he had never known what that was like. People who complained about their families he never understood, at least they were fortunate to have them at all.

He saw her color worsen a bit and he frowned, wondering what he had said that made her react that way. This was why he was not so good with conversation, he never seemed to have the proper couth for it. When she revealed some of her story he frowned “Why could you not be married?” She seemed like a perfectly sweet girl, a bit meek but didn’t Riven men want wives that were quiet and easily obeyed? Unless there was more to her then he was seeing. He then realized the question was highly personal and he quickly shook his head “I apologize. That was wrong of me to ask” Sometimes the curiosity of a soldier got away from him. “I am sorry you miss your home” Hawke had lived in Uru all his life, he didn’t understand what it was to be homesick but he felt for her. He thought it was terrible when father’s sent their daughters off like nothing, it happened in Uru all the time, like daughters were some kind of horrible burden.

Preconceived Notions Empty
PostSubject: Re: Preconceived Notions   Preconceived Notions EmptyThu May 09, 2013 8:21 am

Georgia was becoming more and more comfortable around Hawke and she was glad to have him as her escort. However, much to her dismay Hawke seemed to be becoming more and more tense around her. Was she doing something wrong? Was she offending him in some way? He must be very annoyed with you, Georgia, she thought sadly, well, it is no wonder really. He has to escort you and you have not shut up since you met him. But she couldn't help it. He was so easy to talk to and the words just seemed to flow out of her mouth before she could stop them or even before she could think on what she was saying. She lowered her head and stared at the ground trying not to speak again.

However this resolve did not last long for he asked her a question which made her blush slightly. It was a rather personal question and he must have realized this for he quickly went on to say something else. Georgia didn't mind though, she had asked him a rather personal question earlier and he had answered politely without seeming to be offended. Georgia thought it only right to do the same for him there was just one problem, she wasn't entirely sure how to answer the question without rambling. All her suitors had left for different reasons, similar reasons yes, but different all the same. Georgia glanced around as though she could find a suitable answer hiding in the shadows of Eder Kemo but nothing revealed itself and nothing came to her. Finally she blew out her breath and just started talking as was so easy to do around Hawke. "Well, I have trouble focusing..." she began "there is just so much to see in the world and so much to look it it is hard for me to focus on just one thing... In Riven though, I suppose, it is not favorable to have a wife that cannot focus on long talks or things such a cooking... I do not mind though." This was only half true. Georgia really didn't mind being turned down by all the suitors, she was actually rather relieved, she had not been ready to get married and she was unsure whether she would ever be ready. However what she did mind a little was being sent away to Uru, she had not been ready for that either. Perhaps, though, if Hawke didn't find her unbearable life in Uru would get better.

As she worried about upsetting him, he was worrying he was upsetting her. Maybe there was nothing he could do to ease her nerves, maybe she was always nervous no matter what, but he still felt like he should attempt to do something. He had helped escort prostitutes before when they did not want attention or when men were being too rough with them, and even though he had the patience of a saint that did in fact at times annoy him. Some weren’t so bad, others wanted to hang all over him and he spent the whole time trying to politely brush them off. Georgia was nice though, her company didn’t bother him at all, but he feared he was bothering her because of his soldier status but he wanted to make sure she got home safely. And it intrigued him as well that she was from Riven, he had never got an insider’s view on the Age.

He saw her reaction to his question and he felt like an utter ass. Why had he let that come out of his mouth? As a soldier he was trained to ask questions, to figure things out, but sometimes he didn’t know how to turn it off with people he didn’t really need to be questioning. “I am sorry. I am. I did not mean to ask that. That was rude.” He wondered sometimes how he had never been slapped before with some of the things that blurted out of his mouth. He was surprised however when she decided to answer, he had assumed she’d just take his apology and move on. Her reply he really didn’t understand but Hawke was a different breed of man “You have spirit” And it seemed just like in Teledahn, women in Riven who had spirit were not desired. Women’s spirits were best broken for both places, something Hawke did not agree with “There is nothing wrong with that” He gave her an encouraging smile “Men in J’nanin like women with spirit from what I hear. The more spirit the better”

J'nanin. Georgia, of course, had heard all about J'nanin from Lorelei and she was longing to visit the place. She did not think that she would fit in there either, in fact she did not think she would fit in anywhere, but she was sure she would like it better and Uru at least. Lorelei had told her all about The Age of Festivals and she was particularly intrigued by the dancing that was supposed to go on there. If there was one thing Georgia could actually focus on, it was dance. She had loved the art form ever since she was a child and indeed she was quite skilled in it. However that was one of the things that set her apart in Riven and had sent her suitors away. She Couldn't understand how something so beautiful could be bad, it was beyond her. Her passion for dance had not been met kindly in Teledahn either, her employers thought it distracted her from her work and so she did not dance in Uru.

As she thought on what Hawke said she blushed slightly again, but this time it was accompanied by a small smile. Spirit? She had spirit? "Lorelei said the same thing to me once..." she said softly, though she wasn't sure it was true. Now, her sister on the other hand, had plenty of spirit. She had had spirit enough for the whole town, it was a fiery and passionate spirit that could not be tamed. Georgia remembered that once her sister had told her that each person's soul was a different color. She remembered her sister telling her that her own soul was bright red and that Georgia's soul was pale pink, but Georgia wasn't sure that was quite the same thing as Spirit. "I have always wanted to go to J'nanin, have you ever been?" she asked.

“Well, she seems quite a wise woman. If we both say it, then it must be true” Even with her shyness she had a spark about her, a certain way about her that he couldn’t understand why it would drive anyone away. Did men in Riven really not appreciate such qualities from a girl? She seemed sweet, willing to please, gentle…why could that not suit a man to have her as a wife? Though he had also learned from several hard headed J’nanin women here in Uru that women did not need men to be happy, so he supposed he shouldn’t feel sorry for her for not being married. Maybe it was a good thing…or maybe it wasn’t. Perhaps if she was married she could return to Riven or not work as some maid in Teledahn. Or she could be married and be miserable and oppressed. Who knew what paths were best in life until you took them.

He shook his head “No, but I have met many people from it. Some have said I may be half Nanite because I bend so easily to women” He chuckled “And the woman I am courting, she is part Nanite and lived there once as a child. But I have always been intrigued to go” Other than Uru and his brief trip to Riven, Hawke had never traveled to the other Ages, there never seemed a point too. They started to leave the lower levels of Eder Kemo and towards the nicer parts, the night sky showing far more clearly now. He took in a deep breath, glancing around before back to her “Do you like Uru? Working in Teledahn?”

So she had spirit then. It was an odd thing to think about, she had never imagined herself as having spirit before, even when Lorelei had told her she had. But it seemed to her that Hawke was right, if two respectable and trustworthy people told her she had spirit (on of whom had only met her moments ago), then it must be true and she beamed inwardly at the thought. She could be wrong, but it seemed to Georgia that the tension between her and Hawke clearing up. He seemed less taciturn around her and there was something more relaxed about his voice. This made her heart ever lighter and she hoped that she would run into him again while she was in Uru. She also hoped that they would make haste to her employer's home for she did not want to keep him any longer. She was sure that she was keeping him from the lady he had mentioned and this upset her a little as it was getting very late.

The lightness of her heart fled like a bird when Hawke asked his next question though. She had hoped that he wouldn't ask that question for she would be compelled to answer truthfully and she did not want to offend him. It was true that Riven wasn't the best of places either but it was her home and Georgia felt that she would still feel a little disheartened if someone said that they did not like living in Riven, even though she could understand why. Georgia looked down and wrung her hands again, then she sighed and shook her head. "No..." she said finally "I do not like Uru and I would rather not work in Teledahn..." she said finally.

As Georgia seemed to be more at ease, so did he, he didn’t feel like he was blundering with the conversation anymore. He just felt for her, she was so young to be all but kicked out from her home and be forced to work in a place like Uru. J’nanin would have been far better for her, but there was much more work in Uru. Who watched out for her? He wondered. He hoped she had some friends here, everyone in Uru needed someone to watch their back, but he feared asking her about it since he had already asked her one personal question and he didn’t want to upset her by asking any more. Hawke walked briskly but not in utter haste, he knew Cecelie would be waiting for him no matter how long it took and he didn’t want to hurry the girl along and be rude.

He nodded in understanding and gave her a little smile “I do not like Teledahn” He then leaned in close to her as if telling a secret “And to be honest, I’m not too fond of Uru itself either” Teledahn to him was revolting, the people didn’t care about anything but getting more money and climbing up the social ladder. And Uru…he grew up here, he loved Uru for he knew nothing else, but it was not the best place to be. People were hungry and poor, there was constant rift in Eder Kemo and battles for hierarchy in Teledahn. All Ages had their faults he knew, but it seemed every day that passed Uru grew deeper and deeper into darkness and he did not like it and there was nothing he could do. “There is nothing you can do to stay in Riven?” It seemed so unfair she had no choice to stay in her home Age, she seemed like a full grown woman, she should be able to make her own decisions.

Georgia was almost completely relaxed now. She would still look around furtively to take in the sights of Teledahn, but that was merely due to her usual lack of focus and not her nervousness. She kept pace with Hawke purposefully, even willing him to walk faster if he wished. She did not mind making haste to her employer's home, in fact it was probably best that she did. She was very late and she did not want to hold up Hawke any longer than she had to.

She felt relief wash over her that he did not seem to be offended by the fact that she did not like Uru. It made her sad, all the pain and suffering that she saw here just seemed like too much. It amazed and frightened her that one place could hold so much misery and corruption. In fact, if it were not for people such as Hawke, Georgia was sure that the Age of Empowerment would wither and rot under greed and fear. She imagined Uru years from now with air so polluted it was poisonous to breath and both Eder Kemo and Teledahn in such a state of disrepair that they had become wild and unknown places. Her sister had always told her that greed was a disease and that it always destroyed its host eventually. It made Georgia sad to think that this Age might be a host to greed but so long as people like Hawke were there, there may be hope of saving it.

Georgia pondered his question a moment. Why couldn't she stay in Riven? She had often wondered at this herself but the answer had always found her and it made her sad because if there had been no answer she might be able to quit her job here and go back home, or travel to other Ages. "I want to be able to support my parents... we are not rich and... my mother could use the money." she said, and as she did she realized exactly why she stayed in Uru. It was because she hoped her mother would use the money she sent home to escape her abusive father. This realization was a huge surprise and the thought that she could be so willful and cunning scared her a little.

The gates of Teledahn began to loom before them as they made their trek over the stone bridge towards it. He couldn’t help but to have a sneer touch his face as they approached the city. It loomed over Eder Kemo like it was shoving it’s glamor in the people’s faces, showing them what they can’t have. Poor girl having to work there, he felt bad for all the people who worked there, the aristocrats walked all over those below them. Even if he did feel a deep devotion and love for Uru he would never be offended for someone not liking his Age. He didn’t like Riven by any means, but he made sure not to bring that up to the girl who was homesick over that particular Age. He sighed “They say once Uru was a peaceful place, where everyone was equal. There was no Teledahn, just Eder Kemo, but power got the best of people here” And that the Holder of the Art, Yeesha, had tried to save it but had not been able too.

Hawke didn’t feel there was much hope in saving Uru unless someday an unselfish king or queen ruled it. Until then, it would remain as it was and only worsen. He nodded in understanding at her response. She wanted to help her family, he could respect that for he would do the same. He was curious though to hear her say that her mother needed the money and not both her parents. Peculiar. “Do you have friends here at least? Able to have time to enjoy yourself away from work?” He had told himself to not ask such things but it had come out anyway.

Georgia looked at the looming gates of Teledahn with a sense of foreboding in the pit of her stomach. Walking through those gates was not unlike walking through the portal between Ages. Walking in she always felt sad and oppressed and walking out she always felt more light of heart and freer than she had been. She steeled herself as she approached the large magnificent gates and mentally prepared herself to walk through. Yes, this Age was being slowly consumed by greed but she still had hope that it could be saved. The current queen wouldn't rule forever and not every ruler had to be greed-ridden and corrupt. Perhaps the next one would be more reasonable, perhaps the next one would want to help the people of Eder Kemo and then soldiers such as Hawke wouldn't become so rare.

Georgia jumped at Hawke's question and was about to answer in the negative when something stopped her. "Well... I should hope we could become friends..." she answered instead. And my! How straightforward of her! Georgia blushed at this and wondered how she ever thought it polite or proper to make such a comment. Still, she had spoken the truth. She did hope that she and Hawke could become friends, she was so busy otherwise that she hadn't really gotten a chance to meet anyone in Uru and it would be nice to have a friend here. Someone she could look up to and confide in and thus be a confidant to that person. Even so, she felt the response was still a little too straightforward to be proper and she worried at this.

As they passed through the gates he stiffened, as if he expected more trouble here in Teledahn then in Eder Kemo. Soldiers here were a joke to him, many of them pranced around in gold and silver armor, following after their masters more as decoration than real protection. As they walked through he was eyed by the aristocrats, he assumed because of his ragged appearance and old armor, but he didn’t care. “Where are your employers located?” He asked as he looked to her, his skin crawling just being in the area but he’d deal with it. As a horse went by he instinctively grabbed her arm and pulled her back to avoid it, holding back a growl as the man riding the creature didn’t bother to even watch for them. Yes…he hated Teledahn.

Her response took him off guard and he paused to look at her. Her answer told him that she didn’t have any friends and this saddened him to think she was all alone in the city. But it also gave him the opportunity to be the friend she didn’t have and he smiled “Are we not already?” He joked warmly, ruffling her hair playfully like a big brother would. He didn’t think it rude or straightforward, he found it endearing. He glanced around then back to her “Is there anything you need before you go home?” He’d buy it for her, stores stayed open later here than in Eder Kemo.

Georgia let out a little yelp of surprise as Hawke pulled her backwards out of the way of an oncoming horse, she hadn't even seen it coming. It wasn't the first time Georgia had nearly been run down in Teledahn, her distant and flighty nature made her notice little details but it also caused her to miss some important things as well. It didn't help that here in Teledahn, no one else seemed to care about a passerby either. Unless that passerby were rich or in a position of power, an average aristocrat in Teledahn, wouldn't give said passerby a second thought, and even then it would more than likely be a grudging one. Eder Kemo may be poor and unsafe, full of shady characters and broken people, but here in Teledahn, people were completely self absorbed and there was no compassion anywhere. Georgia shook her head "It is just down this street" she told him and started off.

As Hawke ruffled her hair and gave his response, Georgia smiled. She was happy she hadn't offended him and even happier that he seemed to think of them as friends as well. She was sure that even if they did not see much of each other, life in Uru would improve simply because she knew him. His next question took her a little off-guard however. She jumped and glanced around at the nearby shops with the expensive goods inside of them. There was jewelry and fine silk clothes, stylish winter coats and extravagant hats. The food within the shops that sold it smelled wonderful and there was a pet shop with many exotic creatures. Georgia shook her head however, she didn't need any of these things, she didn't really even want them though her own coat was beginning to grow threadbare from overuse. Still, she would buy a new one herself when her current one proved absolutely useless and even then she'd probably try to find something less decadent, so long as it kept her warm, it didn't matter what a coat looked like, and for now, her coat kept her warm. "No... I do not need anything, thank you... perhaps you could bring something back to your..." she searched her head for an appropriate word. "Lover" seemed to denote something with a hint of scandal or immodesty, and "consort" was almost just as bad. "Your... Fair Lady..." Georgia said lamely. No it wasn't the best of words to use but at least it wasn't insulting.

He immediately released her arm after the danger had passed and gave her an apologetic look “I am sorry. I did not mean to grab you so quickly. I just reacted” He had done it for her safety but he didn’t mean to startle her. Even with his status of a soldier many aristocrats barely noticed him because he wasn’t “high standing” in their eyes, which just meant he didn’t work inTeledahn and didn’t paint himself like a portrait to show off. He thought that was a crock of bull though, since many aristocrats still begged him to work for them because of his reputation yet he refused them all. He would never stoop down to this level even if others thought it was a grand improvement from working in Eder Kemo. No one truly needed help here other than someone carrying their bags and helping them out of carriages.

“Are you sure? Nothing at all? Not even a little something?” He gave her an encouraging smile, wanting to buy her something if she wanted. Not that he thought gifts made everything better in life, but probably to a girl like herself a little trinket might lift her spirits that she had to leave home again and return to Uru for work. When she mentioned his fair lady he looked curious for a moment then chuckled when he realized who she meant “Oh, no, I am not very good at choosing gifts. I am a bumbling idiot when it comes to those sort of things” He had brought her gifts before, little things like flowers and candies, and she had always seemed to like them but to pick her out something from here he would probably fail in picking something that was of her tastes.

Georgia smiled in response to his apology. "Oh, no, I should be thanking you and I am at that." she said. He had saved her after all, why should he apologize for that? After looking around once more she started off again down the street, they would be to her employer's home soon. She wondered what they would think of her coming back so late, this thought hadn't really occurred to her before when she was dawdling but now it began to worry her. What if she were fired? She would have no choice but to go back to Riven with her tail between her legs and she quailed to think what her father might say, and quailed even more to think that her mother might be devastated by this. She was sure that she wouldn't be allowed back home. She understood that, she was 18 and finding this job for her had been the last bit of support that her father would ever show for her. Part of her knew that it was simply to get her out of his hair and she wondered if he would try sending her someplace else if she were fired to do the same. It hurt a little but her father had never been a very loving sort.

"No thank you, nothing at all, I am fine," she said when he persisted in his offer to buy her something. There was truly nothing material that she desired, his friendship and company were comfort enough. Hawke said something else and Georgia looked up at him curiously. "Well, perhaps I could help you pick something out for her. What is she like?" Yes, this would make her happy. She wished to apologize to his Lady for keeping him away so long, however she was not sure when she would get off work let alone how to find her, so she thought that sending Hawke back with a gift might make up for it a little. And what's more, this would make her happy, she would be helping a friend make his love happy, what more could a person ask for?
